FOR CHILDREN’S PRIMARY EDUCATION
Over 80’000 people died due to the Saturday 8 October 2005 earthquake (magnitude 7.6), which took place in the Hindu Kush mountains of Pakistan. In this figure, are included the 10’000 dead in the remote regions in the North part of the county. Approx. 80’000 people were severely injured, majority of which were in the Pakistani side of Kashmir. In the Indian Kashmir, over 2’000 dead were counted. Over 1.5 million people became homeless and this situation is getting worse every day.
The above figures include 1’500 children killed under school building which collapsed.
Today, the number of dead bodies, of severely injured people and of homeless increases continuously. This is due to the poverty in the region and to the lack of infrastructures. Problems to access certain remote regions, where thousands of villagers are isolated, the lack of international help and of relief, as well as rains and the moving in winter, make the situation worse.
