FOR CHILDREN’S PRIMARY EDUCATION
Pomgaon is a little village between Mumbai and Pune, in the state of Maharashtra. Children between the age of 4 to 16 years old, from Pomgaon and different neighboring villages (Morapor, Kumberi, Shiravali, Chandivali, etc...) are to attend that only school.
Education is free for children who can attend, as the school is state owned and teachers fees are paid by the government.
Children come from poor background and their parents are usually farmers. For those reasons, children can often not attend school, as they need to work in the fields with their families. Most families also cannot afford to buy books, stationary, uniforms and shoes, for which no help is given by the government. Children from neighboring villages also have the transportation problem, which is not offered and is an additional cost.
For children who can attend, no meals or snacks are given at school, so families have that extra cost when sending their children to get a scholar education.
Premises are unfortunately very basic. The school has a 5 class rooms, with wooden desks and chairs and tube lights. Hygiene is very poor too, with only one toilet, which is broken and therefore not useable.

The lack of education is due to:
Scarcity, sometimes total lack of education services.
Poor infrastructures: no proper buildings for schools or amenities badly built, with no drinkable water, little electricity, no toilets).
Low family income with high school expenses.
Cost of education is an important problem: the inefficient use of public resources, the lack of transparency in resource allocation, unofficial fees and high cost of school books - which should be distributed free of charge by the government. These problems represent a major barrier to an equal access to primary education.
